Reed College

The first school I'll be tackling is Reed College located in Portland, Oregon. Outside-in: the surrounding area is an eclectic neighborhood with strong cultural ties. The busy downtown turns into a quiet suburban subdivision with tons of trees, flowers, and green lawns. The campus itself is very quiet and isolated with rose gardens, walking trails, and a lake. Surrounding Reed is a Rhododendron Garden (there is an admission fee, but it's only a few dollars) and a golf course. Reed College is extremely bike and walking friendly(there are many parking lots but were empty), and the surrounding streets were quiet and never congested. I spoke to a Junior in the information center who said Reed College is academically rigorous, the professors know what they're talking about, and it's very easy to find your own place. The tuition is approximately $50,000 including room and board. The school offers basketball, rugby, soccer, squash, and ultimate frisbee for sports clubs, and has facilities for sailing, rafting, hiking, tennis, and many others. Overall Reed College is a beautiful campus that focuses more on academics than sports, but maintains and active environment. I took pictures and videos of my visit, but they were accidentally deleted, oh well.

Purpose

So I've decided what to do with this blog...being a high school student I know the struggles of students and parents to find/research/visit/tour colleges and universities, and I'm going to help make the decisions easier. Every time I visit a school I will post my opinions, pictures, videos, and a basic overview, and I welcome the same from all of you. I must ask though that you keep your biases on the down low and focus on all aspects of the school, and I will do the same as well. I will include an overview of the academics, athletics, activities, social life, and neighborhood. Yay a purpose!!!
